Invoice payment terms: Net 7, 15 and 30

Invoice payment terms explain when and how a customer is expected to pay. Agree the terms before billing, then state a clear due date and payment instructions on the invoice.

    Create your invoice

What do Net 7, Net 15 and Net 30 mean?

Net terms describe the number of days allowed for payment from the agreed starting point. That starting point might be the invoice date or receipt of the invoice, depending on the agreement. State it clearly rather than leaving the customer to infer it.

What do Net 7, Net 15 and Net 30 mean?
    TermPlain-language meaning
Net 7Payment within 7 days of the agreed starting date
Net 15Payment within 15 days of the agreed starting date
Net 30Payment within 30 days of the agreed starting date
Due on receiptPayment expected when the invoice is received

    Use an actual due date

A calendar date makes the request easy to act on. If an invoice is issued on 21 October 2026 and your agreement gives 14 days from that date, the due date is 4 November 2026. Check the date rather than copying a previous invoice.

    Illustrative example

Payment due: 4 November 2026. Please pay USD 400 using the agreed bank details. Use INV-2026-001 as the payment reference.

Choose terms that match the agreement

Discuss the schedule before you start the job. A one-off service, a large project and ongoing work can have different billing arrangements. The invoice should record the arrangement, not introduce unexpected conditions at the end.

If a project uses milestones, identify the milestone being billed. If a deposit was paid, show clearly how it relates to the current amount due and keep the payment record. Do not assume the invoice builder automatically tracks deposits.

    Make payment instructions specific

Do not add a late-payment fee simply because it appeared in a sample template. Any fee needs to reflect the agreement and applicable rules.

    • State the billing currency and amount requested.
    • Include the agreed payment method and the correct recipient details.
    • Ask for the invoice number as the payment reference.
    • Provide a contact route for billing questions.

Set the terms in Go Invoice Maker

Enter the issue date and due date in Invoice details. Add the wording in Terms & Conditions and the payment destination in Payment Details. Preview the result to make sure the terms and dates agree.

The invoice is a document, not a payment-processing service. Keep track of payment separately and send any follow-up through your own email or other channel.
